| The peanut plant. We have become involved with a Farmer to Farmer Project for Peanuts in the last month. A peanut grower from North Carolina, Bill, came for two weeks to evaluate peanut growing, harvesting, storing, and selling in the interior of Suriname and to give workshops on how people can increase the quality and yield of their peanut grounds. The project was well received and a large success. We hope to do follow up test plots to experiment with different growing techniques and encourage the development of peanut growing cooperatives to give the women (who do the majority of the peanut farming) more of an advantage in selling their peanuts in the open market in the city. | ||
